PTO Leadership Roles

The success of our PTO would not be possible without the work of our leadership team. Each of these individuals donates their time and talents to make Woodland Hills a great place for our students. Board Positions

Vice President(s) – Courtney Kokjohn

Serves as a member of the district PTO board, attends all district PTO meetings and represents Woodland Hills. Works with the school Principal to create the annual PTO budget and set goals for the school year. Attends and leads all of the Woodland Hills PTO meetings and oversees each of the Woodland Hills PTO Committees. Serves as a liaison between the PTO and the school Principal. 

Treasurer – 

Works with the Vice President(s) to create and maintain the PTO budget, submits deposits and disburses checks. Works closely with the VP(s) and committee chairs on all budget issues. Also works with District Treasurer and gives budget updates at PTO meetings. 

Secretary – Jenney Fitch

Attends all PTO meetings and records meeting minutes. Minutes are sent to the Vice President(s) for approval within one week of the meeting. After approval the minutes will be posted on the Woodland Hills PTO website.  

Committees

Activities – Courtney Kokjohn

Plans & coordinates at least one family even per school year. These events help promote community within our school. 

Apparel Sales – Sarah Foss

Organizes at least one apparel sale each school year. Works with the supplier on the design and ordering of merchandise. Coordinates the order distribution to Woodland Hills families and staff. 

Book Fair – OPEN POSITION

Works with the book fair vendor and school librarian to select materials for the book fair. Coordinates volunteers to arrange, set-up, tear down and staff the book fair during fall conferences.

Box Tops – Jenney Fitch

Organizes and oversees the Box Tops collection program. Box Tops are usually collected twice per school year, once each semester. 

Communications – Haylie Steffensmeier 

Manages the PTO's website and social media. Keeps Woodland Hills families informed by posting up to date information regarding PTO, school and district news and events.

Conference Meals – Katie Wittry 

Organizes snacks, drinks and a meal for teachers and staff during fall & spring conference week. Works with the local vendors to provide catering for the meal and coordinates donations from Woodland Hills families. 

Fine Arts – OPEN POSITION

Coordinates the Applause Series, which is hosted by the Des Moines Performing Arts. All grade levels will attend an age appropriate performance at the Des Moines Civic Center. This is at no cost to the students and bus transportation is provided by the school. Please note, no parent chaperones are needed.

Fundraising – Run For The Hills - Brook Johnson & Annie Reynolds

Run For The Hills is the major fundraiser for the PTO each year. The committee is in charge of planning the event which takes place every October. They will coordinate activities, prizes and volunteers for this event. They oversee the collection of donations as well as the distribution of prizes. The committee also coordinates volunteers for collection days and race day.

Restaurant Fundraisers – Casi Hackman 

Coordinates PTO restaurant fundraisers throughout the year. A portion of the proceeds from restaurant fundraisers comes back to the PTO, which supports the budget.   

School Supplies – 

Works with the District PTO to coordinate school supplies order. Organizes the distribution of supplies to classrooms prior to back to school night. 

Science + Art Fair – Katie Stover 

Plans and organizes the annual Science + Art Fair. Holds an informational meeting prior to the project collection date. Arranges judging by APEX students, coordinates volunteers and assembles prizes for winners. 

Teacher & Staff Appreciation – Katie Wittry 

Organizes ways to show appreciation to Woodland Hills teachers & staff throughout the year. This includes treats at the beginning of the school year and a special week of treats during the first week of May.

Yearbook – Val McFadden 

Maintains the school photo collection. This includes taking candid photos at school events and collecting photos from Woodland Hills staff and families. Works with the yearbook company to design a quality yearbook, this includes a photo collage of various school events for each grade level.
